NBMLHD Aboriginal Health Unit is offering cultural support for all Aboriginal people affected by COVID-19. This includes support to COVID-19 positive individuals as well as their families. Referrals can be received on 47343833 or emailed to NBMLHD-AboriginalHealthUnit@health.nsw.gov.au. Individualised support will be determined by the needs of the client. This is not an emergency service and will only operate between 8am-4.30pm Mon-Fri. Examples of cultural support may include a yarn over the phone, or provision of some resources to keep our spirit connected.
The NBMLHD Aboriginal Health Unit also operates a free call Vaccination assistance hotline. The vaccination booking hotline is a point of contact for vulnerable people to talk to staff within the Aboriginal Health Unit for support. The hotline is staffed by an officer who can provide cultural support and assistance over the telephone. Assistance can be provided to people seeking advice about vaccinations, needing support to find a suitable location for their vaccination, to make appointments on the patient’s behalf, to coordinate attendance at appointments and provide resources as required.
