The Suicide Prevention Carer Support Program is a free program which provides connection, support and information for family members and friends with a loved one at risk of suicide in the Nepean Blue Mountains. If you have any questions, or you would like to register your interest in a group please call our team on 1800 431 166.
The Carer Support Program is designed to support you to:
- Gain knowledge of how you can support your loved ones during periods of distress
- Learn strategies to manage your own self-care
- Be provided with information about other services and supports in your area and how to connect with them
Our approach to Suicide Prevention Carer Support Groups
- Groups are co-facilitated by lived experience peer workers and a family clinician
- Three group sessions (2 hours each) are delivered over 5 weeks
- Individual telehealth sessions with a peer worker and family clinician are available between the group sessions (optional)
- Participants can reach out for up to two months after the groups for two support calls
The following specialised groups are available under the Carer Support Program:
- Carers supporting Young People
- Carers supporting Men
- Carers of people from the LGBTIQA+SB Community
- Group open for any carers who support people at risk of suicide
