MATES is a charity established to reduce the high level of suicide among Australian construction, mining, energy, and manufacturing workers.
MATES supports workers in need through case management and a 24/7 help line 1300 642 111 which are available to anybody in Australia working in the industry. They also offer on site training programs which include Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and specialised training to establish Connectors in the industry who identify and respond to signs of distress among their colleagues dismantling the stigma associated with mental health issues and establishing a supportive network within the work community. When invited by the site MATES can also support workers after critical incident occurances and with support after a death by suicide.
