Rural and regional communities in NSW experience higher rates of suicide compared to metropolitan areas. The NSW Ministry of Health have funded Rural Counsellors who provide psychological and emotional support to people, communities and workplaces in rural areas so they can better cope with natural disasters, economic changes and severe adversity. This will include providing dedicated support to people experiencing suicidal ideation or recovering from a suicide attempt.
