The Family and Carer Mental Health Program is for carers of a loved one is living with emotional distress, trauma, mental health issues or suicidal ideation and provides to you:
- Individual Carer Support including emotional support, information, and advocacy from Carer Support Workers or Carer Peer Workers with lived experience of being a carer.
- Carer Education and Training which aims to build resilience and improve the ability to cope with the challenges of caring for someone with a mental illness. Courses are available to take online, in small groups in the community, or during a one-to-one session with someone from our team.
- Carer Support Groups that meet as in-person groups at Penrith, Lawson, Lithgow, and Richmond offering opportunities for sharing experiences once a month to focus on Carer strengths, provide information, and build skills. Two online evening support groups are also available, one for carers of people supporting a loved one who has suicidal ideation and/or self-harms and one for carers of young people who are on a mental health journey.
The program does not provide crisis management, case management or counselling. The program aims to support Carers to gain skills and knowledge to support their Carer journey over a one-year period.
